PRESS RELEASE: The London Premiere of Niyi Towolawi's DESECRATION the Movie Starring Rita Dominic & Joseph Benjamin @ The Lighthouse on Fri/11/Nov

Kherut Films Releases film: Desecration, feature film
For Immediate Release
London, 11th of November, 2016

Bode Odetoye of Kherut Films recently completed production of star studded cinematic thriller. Helming the motion picture as director is international multi-award winner, Niyi Towolawi of HekCentrik Films.

Set and shot in London, UK, the film stars Nollywood heavyweights, Rita Dominic, Joseph Benjamin and Rykardo Agboh, alongside UK actors of both Nigerian and British backgrounds, such as Nicola Alexis (currently starring in Harry Porter musical), Max Cavenham, Moji Bamtefa, Ken Smart and delightful seven year old Angel Agala. Incidentally, this is director Towolawi’s first feature film set in London, having shot his previous three in the US and Nigeria.

Says Bode Odetoye about the project: “after years of following his work and a few more spent planning to do something together, it was great to finally work with Niyi Towolawi. I call him my erudite director and it was a positive experience that I can’t wait to do all over again.”  About the experience of his debut production, Odetoye continues, “It was a steep learning curve but one that I will treasure”.

The film explores how a casual fling quickly becomes a living nightmare for Olushola Daniels and his family, after being captivated by one other than his wife.

Niyi Towolawi adds, “it was an absolute pleasure shooting a feature in London and getting the opportunity to photograph this beautiful city, working with close allies and a producer that allowed me so much space to put my signature as an auteur on the film”.

Desecration will premiere on the 11th of November 2016 at The Lighthouse, London and is set for cinema release across Africa and beyond in 2017.

SYNOPSIS
A departure from the recent productions coming out of Nigeria and inspired by true events, 76 uncovers the plot that led to the assassination in 1976 of the then popular Nigerian military ruler General Murtala Mohammed. Six years after the Nigerian civil war, Dewa (Ramsey Nouah) a young officer from the middle belt becomes embroiled in a romantic relationship with Suzy (Rita Dominic) a young woman from the south east. Their relationship is threatened by the overwhelming strain of their ethnic difference. Now heavily pregnant, Suzy’s world falls apart when news of her husband’s involvement in a botched coup attempt hit the headlines. Stunningly shot on 35mm and given extra texture by the use of footage from the BBC Archives, 76 atmospherically recreates the era. Complete with a score of African music, along with some American soul classics, 76 reminds us of the moment when this great west African country lost its innocence.
